Explore Tuscany’s Chianti region on horseback and discover centuries of winemaking heritage on this 6-hour Chianti horse riding day trip from Florence. Travel through the Chianti countryside on horseback with your guide. Admire rolling hills covered in ancient vineyards and olive groves. Visit a local winery’s cellars and learn of the Chianti region’s rich winemaking heritage. Enjoy a delicious meal of traditional, regional specialities and sample fine Chianti wines during a wine-tasting session. Your tour size is limited to 8 to ensure a more personalized experience.

Choose from a morning or afternoon horse trek, then set off by minivan from central Florence into the Chianti countryside to begin your tour. Widely considered home to some of Italy’s most beautiful scenery, Chianti boasts rolling hills, dense forests, fertile soils, grape-laden vines and centuries-old olive groves.

After a 45-minute drive out of Florence, arrive at the stables where your horse awaits. Listen to a brief safety introduction and enjoy a 30-minute orientation lesson, during which you’ll have the chance to get acquainted with your horse. The stables cater for riders of all abilities and beginners are very welcome — previous riding experience is not necessary. Riding hats (helmets) are provided free of charge and casual clothes can be worn.

Head out from the stables on horseback with your guide and explore the open fields and forested trails of the Chianti countryside. Pass ancient olive groves and row after row of vineyards, and gain insight into the rural heart of Tuscany.

After one hour on horseback, alight and hop back into your minivan for the onward journey to a prestigious local winery. Enjoy a guided tour of the cellars — where barrels of fine wines lie slowly maturing — and listen as your guide details the Chianti region’s rich winemaking heritage and traditions.
Drive onward for five minutes to a boutique winery in the cellars of a magnificent Italian villa, surrounded on all sides by rolling hills, cypress trees, vineyards and olive groves. Sit down to a delicious lunch or dinner (depending on option selected) of traditional Tuscan specialities such as Pecorino cheese, prosciutto, salami and bruschetta, and enjoy a tasting session of some of the finest Chianti wines. (The wine tasting fee is included in the tour and wines are also for sale). Listen to an introduction on the theory of wine-tasting and gain insight into the complex fruit flavors at play in your glass.

At the conclusion of your meal, take the 35-minute journey back to central Florence by minivan, where your tour will come to an end.

Florence’s Duomo Complex stands tall and proud, keeping the glory of Renaissance alive even today. The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore is the fourth largest church in the world while the complex, including the Baptistery and Giotto’s Campanile, is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Being a large and complex structure, it was not a work of one man. The cathedral construction began at the end of 13th century with the leadership of Arnolfo di Cambio. However, the Duomo part which overtakes most of the exterior was added in the 15th century by Filippo Brunelleschi. You can see the statues of both architects outside the cathedral on the right.
